Stuart Hanson B Mus (Hons), FMCA

Managing Partner & Family Mediator

Stuart is a Family Mediator accredited by the Family Mediation Council (FMC) in all issues and is a member of the College of Mediators. He also delivers training for mediators nationally on the subject of the LGBT+ family in the mediation room and the international family. He was previously a family magistrate in Leeds. Stuart works as a mediator both in the UK and abroad. He is the founder of the company and was instrumental in building the national network of mediators which the firm has. In 2018 Stuart was presented with a National Mediation Award and for a number of years was on the board of directors at The College of Mediators. 

Dorian Ramirez Sosa

Dorian Ramirez Sosa PhD

Office & Finance Manager

Dorian initially studied in his home country of Mexico and later graduated with a PhD from the Civil Engineering Department at the University of Leeds. His research focused on the development of alternative biological routes for the conversion of waste-to-energy. Dorian’s scientific and analytical approaches are applied in his managing of the company’s office and finances. He is fluent in both English and Spanish and is supporting the business in its development in Spain. Member of the College of Mediators since 2019.

Jan Coulton

Jan Coulton LLB (Hons), FMCA, PPC

Practice Supervisor & Family Mediator

Jan has been a mediator for 30 years. She is accredited by the FMC and has held many senior positions. She was previously the Director of the Family Mediators Association and a Member of the Ministry of Justice Family Mediation Steering Group. She is also a qualified solicitor. Jan is the Chair of The College of Mediators and in 2018 and 2020 won Family Mediator of the Year at the National Mediation Awards.

Jack Bickerton

Jack Bickerton LLB (Hons), LLM

Project Manager

Jack holds both a LLB and a LLM in law. He has a strong interest in family law and has done extensive volunteer work at Support Through Court. Jack is training to be a family mediator and and in his free time he is the senior editor of the prestigious academic journal, King’s Student Law Review. Jack previously worked as a case worker for GIPSIL, a housing charity in Leeds, where he provided support with families and vulnerable people, and did welfare benefit tribunals. Jack has undergone training on autism and is the firm’s champion. 

Michelle Marwick

Michelle Marwick


Michelle has many years of experience in administration both in the UK and South Africa. She was previously a team leader within the NHS managing a team of administrators. She has also held a number of secretarial roles within the legal and banking sector. Michelle is a mother of two and is an active volunteer preparing food for a local soup kitchen.

Lesley Dudleston

Lesley Dudleston FMCA

Family Mediator

Lesley trained as a mediator with the FMA (Family Mediators Association) in 2014. She is accredited by the Family Mediation Council in all issues. Lesley mediates on both financial and child cases with particular experience working with families with teenagers – she is a mum with two teenage children. Lesley also has experience of working with clients on the autistic spectrum. Lesley is a member of Resolution and the Family Mediation Association.


Will Stewart

Will Stewart BA, GDL, FMCA, PPC

Family Mediator

Will is an accredited Family Mediator, Child-Inclusive Mediator and Professional Practice Consultant. He trained as a solicitor with Penningtons LLP and has worked in dispute resolution since 2004, qualifying as a Family Mediator in 2012. He works on all publicly funded and private cases and has experience of working within the court system as a Mediator. Will is a member of NFM, The College of Mediators and the Law Society.

Belinda Jones

Belinda Jones BA (Hons), MBA, GDL, LPC, FMCA

Family Mediator

Belinda is an accredited Family Mediation Council mediator. After re-training in law and completing her legal studies (GDL and LPC) in 2015, Belinda worked in the property and family teams of high street law firms before deciding to train as a family mediator. Belinda is also one of the first UK practitioners to be trained as a parenting co-ordinator under the AFCC (Association of Family and Conciliation Courts). In her spare time, Belinda is also the Treasurer for the Cambridge and Ely Child Contact Centres. Belinda is a member of Resolution and the College of Mediators.

Rachel Marsden

Rachel Marsden LLB (Hons), LPC, FMCA

Family Mediator

Rachel practiced as a solicitor specialising in family law for 14 years. She then decided to embark on a new challenge and retrained as a Family Mediator. Since January 2016 she has worked exclusively as a Family Mediator accredited by the Family Mediation Council and is a member of The College of Mediators. Rachel is a busy working mum with two young children. 

Sarah Wilson

Sarah Wilson LLB (Hons), FMCT

Family Mediator

Sarah trained as a family mediator with LBA Excellence, finishing her studies in 2021. She previously studied law at Leeds Beckett University and achieved a first class honours degree. Sarah is registered with the Family Mediation Council and is a member of The College of Mediators. Before working with Direct Mediation Services, Sarah worked in the family team at Henry Hyams in Leeds. Sarah also has extensive experience providing advice and representation to patients detained under the mental health act. Sarah is also a full-time mum.


Brigitte Jonsson LLB, LLM, FMCT

Family Mediator

Brigitte is a trained lawyer, and has experience working in the voluntary sector helping families with no resources with their legal issues. Earlier in her career she specialised in International Commercial Law and worked for the banking sector. Alternate Dispute Resolution has always interested her and this inspired her to train as a mediator. She is also fluent in English, Spanish and French and is able to help people for whom language may seem like a barrier to mediation.
