Approaching mediation is not easy. It means acknowledging that there is a problem and for many people that communications have broken down in the family. However, by making the decision to attend mediation it means you want to change the situation and to find an agreement that everyone can live with. That first telephone call can be daunting, so that is why you can book online, but with the knowledge that at any time you can speak to someone at Direct Mediation Services about mediation, the process and the promise we make to you as a client regarding the services we deliver.

MIAM

Many people worry about seeing their ex-partner during the mediation process, especially if there has been an argument or they are no longer speaking. Before the mediation takes place, each person is invited to a Mediation Information & Assessment Meeting (MIAM). This allows you to ask questions about the mediation process and the accredited family mediator will talk to you about your personal situation. This can be done online or Face-to-Face and usually last between 45 minutes to an hour. If you opt to have a Face-to-Face meeting, you can be assured that we will not schedule your ex-partner’s MIAM at the same time. At the MIAM your mediator will talk to you about whether mediation is the right approach for you. It is important to remember that by attending a MIAM, it does not necessarily mean that the mediation will progress – your mediator will discuss the different routes that may be available for you if that is the case.

Once you have asked us for a MIAM, we understand the need to priorities your case and that is why we always try and offer you a MIAM within 24 hours/one working day from the time you have booked. When you provide us with your ex-partner’s details we will then contact them asking them to attend a MIAM also. This is done by text and email (if the contact details are available). We usually allow 72 hours for a response and then if nothing is heard, we contact them again up asking for a reply, explaining that we will sign the court papers if we do not hear from them in 24 hours.

We believe that having specified time frames in place allows you to know where you are in the process and it is one less thing for you to worry about. To book your MIAM today, visit our website or email us.
