Mental health during separation or divorce
Going through a separation or divorce is one of the most stressful situations in life, so it is important that you look after your mental health. Our advice is don’t suffer by yourself, go and get support. This could be via friends or family, or from a mental health professional. Let us introduce you to our resident psychologist, Dr. John Cordwell.
Meet Dr. John
John is a psychologist in both the NHS and in independent practice, and has over 15 years clinical experience as a psychologist. John has many years working within and across multidisciplinary teams and across multi-agency services that support individuals with psychological needs. In the NHS, John leads a specialist community mental health team working with individuals who have experienced trauma and who experience complex mental health difficulties.
In independent practice John works with working age adults who struggle with complex life stresses, work stressors, substance misuse difficulties, common mental health difficulties, trauma and PTSD, and with those who suffer with enduring and complex mental health difficulties. John also has specialist training and experience in adapting and offering psychological therapies for individuals with neurodevelopmental complexities such as ADHD and Autism, and with those with cognitive skills and cognitive functioning difficulties.
John is trained in Trauma Focussed Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (TF-CBT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), but more particularly Rational Emotion Behavioural Therapy (REBT). John will offer psychological therapy bespoke to your needs and current difficulties, and he is able to offer both short-term and long-term psychological therapeutic approaches that suit your needs and current difficult experiences.
